Usable capacity versus total capacity: the cheapest return-rate fix available
The most-cited reason for returns in the air fryer category is a specification wording problem rather than a product problem.

Direct answer
This page answers one of the decisions a buyer has to make before an appliance programme can be specified. The useful framing throughout is that most sourcing mistakes are sequencing mistakes: the decision that looks small — destination market, architecture, usable capacity — is expensive to reverse after tooling, artwork or certification has started. The range behind these decisions is 7 categories and 22 models, with 3 primary product lines.
- Figures here are normal production values, not guaranteed limits for every order
- Where a value depends on the destination market, the rule is linked rather than asserted generally
- MOQ and lead time are quoted per model, not as a single site-wide number

The most-cited reason for returns in the air fryer category is a specification wording problem rather than a product problem.

Two numbers, one expectation
Total capacity is the geometric volume of the cavity. Usable capacity is what remains for food once the basket base and grate displace part of the interior. Marketing tends to quote total, because it is the larger number and the category has trained buyers to expect it.
The result is a buyer who fills the basket to the stated figure, finds that food touches the element or the heating air cannot circulate, and either cooks in batches or returns the unit. Either outcome costs the buyer money and costs the listing a review.
Why it persists
Because it is nobody's job. The manufacturer publishes the larger number because competitors publish the larger number. The retailer copies the listing. And the buyer's specification sheet says "5 litres" without saying which litres.
Fixing it costs one line in a specification sheet: state usable capacity as usable, and describe the total separately if it is needed for comparability. Every model page in this catalogue states usable capacity first for that reason.
What else belongs in the same sentence
Capacity is the most visible specification, but two others cause comparable mismatches. Temperature range should be stated with whether it applies to the whole cavity or a zone. Independent zones on a dual basket model should say whether the two sides can run different temperatures simultaneously, because buyers assume they cannot.
None of these requires a product change. They require a specification change, which is the cheapest change of all.

- Why a platform structure lowers the cost of your second SKU2026-10-02Multi-model programmes are usually justified by volume discount. The stronger argument is that models sharing a platform share tooling, fixtures, test jigs and inspection points.
- Decide the destination market before the specification is frozen2026-09-18Six things change as soon as the destination country is fixed — voltage, plug, test scope, marks, labelling and importer identity. Most of them are expensive to change afterwards.
- Spare parts: a design decision, not an after-sales task2026-07-14A replacement-part list defined during design costs almost nothing. The same list assembled from field failures costs more and covers less.
